March occurs as historic market town in the Cambridgeshire fens, on the River Nene. These are administered per Fenland District Council (which is based in the town), & lies on the rail route between Peterborough and Ely.
The tradition within Cambridge is for a class action of academician & students to take in March when you took a third month of every year, & hike briskly back to Cambridge, pausing at many ready to hand lodge. History
Modern March lies on the path of the Roman Road the Fen Causeway and there is grounds to believe of roman settlements in the area.
Prior to a draining of the fens, the town was profits an island in the squashy fens. It was formed from either ii settlements, Merche & Mercheford, separated by the canal. At in one case transport on the River Nene provided the basis of the town's trade, however this declined by having coming of the railway in the 19th century.
